• My mother was playing cards on my Grandma James’s front porch when her water broke.
  • I was born in Booth Memorial Hospital, where unwed mothers had their babies.
  • My mother was 17 years old and had to leave high school b/c of being pregnant with me.
  • I don’t know my biological father, only his first name, Bernard and he was a neighborhood boy. Someone told me he was tall, handsome, light and nice. I am to look like him from the nose up.
  • I’ve been told that I was a sweet baby who rarely cried and always smiled and laughed.
  • I was born on a Tuesday at 1:18 a.m.
  • I came out of the womb with head full of hair.
  • My Grandma James named me Robin and she and my mother would argue about who named me for years.
  • My original birth certificate stated my name was Robin Michelle Doss (mother’s maiden name) and that I was a Negro. No father was listed.
  • Grandma James use to sing me this lullaby that she learned from her mother Bye-O-Baby but she always sounded like she was singing Bye-A-Baby. I tried to upload a voice recording of me singing it to this blog, didn’t work. I’ll try again.
